The Bendigo Chinese Association Inc. (BCA) was due to host their annual Harvest Moon Festival at the Dai Gum San Chinese Precinct on Saturday 18th, September 2021.

Unfortunately, due to current Covid-19 restrictions, the Association is unable to stage this popular family-oriented event for the second year because of the limits placed on public gatherings during the pandemic.

The Harvest Moon Festival is a very important celebration for the Chinese people no matter where they live in the world.  In China, the festival marks when people return home to be with family and friends after the end of harvest season. In Australia, the festival falls during early spring, so for the Chinese of Bendigo and Australia, it holds a special meaning, marking the end of winter and hope for a plentiful harvest.

The BCA Inc. is hopeful, of course, that restrictions will have eased significantly between now and next February when we plan to celebrate Lunar New Year with the Bendigo community on Saturday February 6th.

The BCA is also hopeful that once Covid vaccination targets are met that our major events, such as Lunar New Year and the 150thBendigo Easter Fair are permitted and interstate travel resumes to enable maximum participation by locals, visitors and visiting Chinese Associations from throughout Australia.
